The post Spokane Treatment Follow-Program * combines two computer technologies to help your family and child continue to grow after you return from Spokane. The first is a secure Accountability website that makes it easier for teachers and parents to communicate about the child's school behavior, academic performance and homework. This allows you to create a much more efficient motivational system to help your child efficiently focus on improving school behavior and academic work, as well as homework. The second is a program, called WebCAER, that you will run on your PC. It provides a simulation of the full CAER machine you experienced in Spokane. In addition to similar moving sounds and lights, WebCAER also allows you to place emotionally provocative images between the moving  lights and concurrently play emotionally provocative soundtracks. This allows you to extinguish the conditioned emotional responses from these cues so that the do not interfere with learning.

Performance Accountability
Web Site

In order to help your child at school you need clear, timely, complete information on their problems and strengths. This can be a critical problems for parents because traditional techniques of phone calls, e-mails or the child carrying a note back and forth are usually unreliable, incomplete and take too much work to last for long.

The Accountability website provides a more efficient and effective way for parents and teachers to communicate.  The teacher can log on to the child’s file and quickly enter a numeric rating of the child’s academic and behavioral performance,  as well as specific notes on the child's performance, and homework assignments given and  returned. The parent can log in to the child’s account to retrieve this information.  They can also pass information back to the teacher about completion of homework, behavior management plans, etc..  I, as the doctor supervising this interaction, can log on to  make suggestions about how parents and teachers can work together more efficiently.

This process provides up to date performance information to guide a motivational system and to keep tutoring relevant and connected to the school.

The accountability website provides the information necessary for a motivational structure to encourage the development of new skills. But, the intent is not to trap the child between strong contingencies and performance anxiety.  To avoid this, WebCAER is used extinguish their learning anxiety. This allows much ,milder contingencies to motivate behavior. Extinguishing learning phobias also facilitates demonstration of their skills in the classroom that once caused them to be considered learning disabled or ADHD.

High tech tutoring with WebCAER and Educational Games

Since the research is clear, that educational games are one of the most efficient and effective educational tools we have, I have provided a number of educational games that you can download free. Combined with WebCAER, they provide an inexpensive and effective tutoring program. One simply alternates between the educational game and WebCAER. When the child gets frustrated, or stuck on a academic task, WebCAER allows you to capture the frustrating image and present it between the moving lights. The child then uses the image to reconstruct the frustration and then watches the moving lights and sounds to extinguish those bad feelings. They alternate back and fourth between these two tasks until the image no longer causes any emotional response. Once the bad feelings are extinguished, the originally frustrating and difficult task is usually easy.

You may also use a digital camera to capture emotionally loaded images of classrooms, other children, teachers, tests, homework sheets, siblings, parents and so on. This allows you to extinguish bad feelings off many parts of family members lives.

There is also an online library of  images which include:: appealing foods, mood colors and stock trading screens.

In addition, you may also make custom sound recordings similar to those described in my book, ADHD: A Path to Success (page 251). This feature allows you to extinguish the emotional responses to other people's words, , such as teacher statements of "do your math", "sit in your seat", parents saying "do your homework", "do not hit your sister", or possibly teasing from other kids. Once these bad feelings are extinguished, the task is usually much easier and less emotionally draining.

Together these technologies provide the basis for a stepwise systematic program that continues to addresses the real reasons underlining the educational and behavioral problems

It is a 4-step process to continue to improve your child's success in school:  1) Teaching responsibility for behavioral and academic task completion.  2) Reducing performance anxiety so that the child' can actually access their skills and demonstrate them in the classroom.  3) Bringing their skills up to grade level expectancies. 4) Transferring performance back to the school setting

*The post Spokane Treatment Follow-up Program is a subscription service  that provides powerful ongoing post-treatment therapy for the whole family. However, since it is a new technology and has not been proven as an independent, free standing treatment procedure, it is ONLY available to patients who have already been treated by me in Spokane.
